Q: Where can I get a swimming mask that will let me use my prescription glasses to see well underwater while snorkeling?
A: I am not that familiar with this topic but I would say that the reason swimming masks like that are not available is that your prescription glasses would break the seal between the mask and your face and water would enter your mask and I don’t think that there is any way to get around that. Possible solutions would IMHO be:
- get prescription swimming mask which as you say is quite expensive
- wear contact lenses, I am not sure – but I think hard contacts can also fix astigmatism?
- modify one of your old prescription glasses so the fit inside your mask, shorten the pieces that go behind your ears so they fit inside your mask and make some sort of a system to fix them inside.
Also, it would be a good idea to test the prescription glasses/swimming mask combination for fogging before you start making any modifications. If your glasses fog inside the mask…that would be pretty useless.
